Types Of Warehouse In Logistics And Their Significance

The demand for the warehouses is directly proportional to the advancement in the business sector. As businesses expanded, more spaces were required to safely store their cargos and goods. While few companies built their own warehouses, small-scale industries failed to do so due to shortage of capital. Seeing the window of opportunity, logistics companies started providing them warehouses on lease. As time passed by, logistics companies built different types of warehouses that were more convenient for their clients.

Warehousing is one of the major pillars of the Indian economy. The logistics companies provide various types of warehouse spaces in Chennai, Delhi or other cities, each one of them designed to store certain types of goods. Mentioned below are the various types of warehouses found in India:

Public Warehouses

Public warehouses are warehouses that are taken on lease from a third-party for a short duration of time. These warehouses are managed, controlled, and monitored by the third-party only and also, they are in charge of the security of the goods. As building a warehouse takes a chunk out of the business capital, many companies prefer choosing public warehouses. Since they are operated by a third-party, these warehouses are well-maintained and organized at all times. These third-party companies often provide other facilities like packaging, shipping, distributing, etc.

Private Warehouses

Private warehouses are warehouses that are owned, monitored, controlled and governed by a particular company. These warehouses are expensive and hence, only large-scale industries can afford them. Companies that buy goods in bulk for the upcoming season have to store them for a prolonged period of time. Taking a warehouse on lease for so long can be very expensive, and so, owning a warehouse proves to be a more advantageous option for the companies.

Climate-Controlled Warehouses

As the name suggests, climate-controlled warehouses are weather-proof. These warehouses are required for goods that may spoil over time due to exposure to climatic changes. For example, if you want to store wooden furnishings in a warehouse space in Chennai, you should opt for a climate-controlled warehouse as the high-moisture content in the environment can spoil the furnishings. Climate-controlled warehouses are equipped with facilities ACs, heaters, etc. that create a suitable artificial environment inside the warehouse.
