Various Warehouses and their Uses

Warehousing is a large part of the supply chain industry as it forms the nodes in the whole process of the distribution of the goods and the services. Apart from transportation and the manpower this may be the most important part of this industry. Warehousing is not just a part of logistics and supply chain but instead it is an industry in itself. There are various types of warehousing spaces which are explained in brief in the following segment.

Types of Warehouses:

Private warehouses: This type of warehouse in India is owned and run by a private company or entity which is used to store their own finished goods or raw materials. These companies generally run their own supply chain or often use this as storage to keep their products as near to the manufacturing unit as possible. The major point about owning a private warehouse is that you do not require the assistance of any third party company. This is a common thing for a small company or industry that does not have a very big spread across the country and run in small community.

Public warehouse: This is the place which is generally used for giving to lease or renting partially to many companies for use. These warehouses are built at important stations which are often located on important routes of transportation. These are major help to the manufacturing industry and also third party logistic companies so that they can have an easy access to high tech storage without any major investment. They are given to companies on various types of leases such as small term, long term and seldom on a lifetime lease. The benefit is for both the industrial real estate developer as well as the company which has leased it from them.  This type of business is fairly successful as the demand for it never dies.

Automated warehouse: These warehouses are high tech store houses which are reducing manpower by a huge margin. The place is laid with technology so as to gain support for the quicker arrangement and optimal use of the space and also to organise a successful transportation of the products in good condition of timely transport. The technology is generally very high tech and computer software are used for optimal designing of space, also the automated machinery is used so as to move and locate the products inside the large storage.

Climate control Warehouse: Used for raw materials, food products and medicine which have to be in optimal temperature for long time. These warehouses have excellent methods to keep the temperature, humidity and light in proper condition so as to keep the products live for a very long time. These warehouses are highly expensive and so are the products they store. They serve for the largest capitalists in the world and their accuracy can get great profits and lack in efficiency can cause heavy losses.

Distribution Center: Most of the warehouses are distribution centers as they are used to distribute the products and help them in further transportation. Now the facilities of a distribution center are available at every stop of a supply chain. The supply chain in India uses the distribution centres in the most optimal way as this is generally the final place for management before the product reaches the consumers. The items are packed and labelled here for further tracking and healthy shipment. The items may need to be brought to the staging area which is an important part of the distribution center. These places will have a lot of manpower as an intelligent and diligent work can come from people. The heavy machinery is used as well to move around heavy packages and for loading and unloading.
